About the Founder

Shri P. S. Khobragade

Founder & Chief Mentor – Dhammbhumi Kelzar Shraman Education Project

A Life Dedicated to Dhamma, Education, and Social Transformation

Shri P. S. Khobragade is the visionary founder and guiding force behind the Kelzar Shraman Education Project at Dhamma Bhoomi, Kelzar. A retired Sub-Engineer by profession, he has dedicated his post-retirement life entirely to the revival and strengthening of Shraman culture through education, discipline, and moral living.

Deeply inspired by the teachings of Lord Buddha and the transformative vision of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Shri Khobragade firmly believes that true social change is possible only through character-building, value-based education, and disciplined living.

From Engineering to Nation-Building

After serving with integrity in government service, Shri Khobragade chose a path of complete dedication to society rather than a comfortable retired life. In an extraordinary act of commitment, he has devoted his entire pension and personal resources to sustain and build the Shraman education initiative at Kelzar.

What began as a small effort with a handful of students has today grown into a recognized and respected center of moral and value-based education, nurturing more than 70 Shraman students—with many more aspiring to join.

"To create a generation of disciplined, ethical, compassionate, and socially committed youth who will serve society and strengthen the moral foundations of the nation."

— Shri P. S. Khobragade

He saw that modern education, while producing professionals, often fails to produce responsible, ethical, and socially sensitive human beings. The Kelzar project was born to bridge this gap—by integrating:

  • Formal education
  • Shraman discipline (Vinaya)
  • Simple living and self-restraint
  • Moral training and social responsibility

A Living Example of the Values He Teaches

Shri P. S. Khobragade is not only a guide and administrator—he is a living example of the values he preaches:

  • Simple and austere personal life
  • Tireless daily involvement in student life and project management
  • Deep personal concern for every student
  • Unwavering faith in discipline, ethics, and service

Students, teachers, visitors, and supporters alike recognize him as a true karmayogi—someone who works silently, sincerely, and without expectation of personal recognition.

Impact and Recognition

Under his leadership:

  • The number of Shraman students has grown from 30 to over 70+ in one year
  • The project has earned deep respect from schools, teachers, and the local community
  • The discipline, humility, and conduct of students have become the identity of the Kelzar center

Many visitors describe the initiative as a living revival of Shraman tradition in modern times.

Looking Ahead

Shri Khobragade envisions:

  • Expanding the project to 3000+ students and beyond in the next 3 years
  • Developing Kelzar as a regional center of excellence for Shraman education
  • Creating a replicable model for other districts and states
  • Ensuring that no deserving child is denied this opportunity due to lack of resources
